Giving Back to the Communities We Serve

We give back to our communities by contributing to a diverse group of local, national, and global organizations that support a variety of causes and populations to improve the quality of life for communities across North America.

Investing in Our Communities

At Dollar Tree, Inc., we strive to give back to our community, not only by offering quality products at great low prices, but also by supporting efforts that improve the quality of life in the communities in which we operate, particularly those surrounding our corporate headquarters and our distribution centers. We have an active and ongoing commitment to our three main charitable partners — Operation Homefront, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and United Way of South Hampton Roads. In addition to corporate giving, we join with our charitable partners to support multiple opportunities for giving and volunteerism by our associates.

Through financial support, employee volunteering, and partnerships with our customers and nonprofit organizations, we support causes that will have the greatest impact on these communities and the people who live there. We have established specific guidelines that facilitate our corporate giving.

Helping Military Families Thrive with Operation Homefront

Dollar Tree, Inc. is proud to have partnered with Operation Homefront since 2007 to support military families across the country. Operation Homefront’s mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive in the communities that they’ve worked so hard to protect. They provide emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.

Every year, Dollar Tree, Inc. provides a corporate monetary donation, plus we hold an annual Back-to-School Supply Drive in July and a Holiday Toy Drive in November to gather donations for Operation Homefront from our customers. Over the years, our customers have purchased and donated over 90 million toys and millions of back-to-school supplies in our stores to support military families.

Empowering Youth with Boys & Girls Clubs of America

Through corporate donations, in-store cause campaigns, brand partnerships, and employee giving, Family Dollar has raised more than $6 million for Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Clubs nationwide since 2014.

In 2023, the partnership is changing course to support the Think, Learn, Create Change program. Family Dollar plans to donate over $1.3 million to Boys & Girls Clubs of America to empower Club youth to create positive change in their communities by giving them the resources, opportunities, and support to Do More to impact the world around them.

Giving Back to Our Neighbors with United Way

Dollar Tree, Inc. became a corporate sponsor of United Way of South Hampton Roads (UWSHR) in 2020 because of our shared mission to help people in our local community thrive. We donated $250,000 our first year to UWSHR's Coronavirus Recovery Fund, which was used to provide relief from COVID-19 through direct services for individuals in need, for the non-profit agencies on the front lines, and for long-term recovery planning for the local community.

In 2021, hundreds of associates at our Store Support Center participated for the first time in the United Way Day of Caring by volunteering in 25 projects throughout the southern Virginia region. As a result, 18 nonprofits were supported including the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, Equi-Kids Therapeutic Horseback Riding, Edmar Hospice for Children, Seton Youth Shelter, and more.

Our Other Charitable Partners

In addition to our partnerships with Operation Homefront, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and the United Way of South Hampton Roads, we also partner with many other charitable entities supporting a variety of causes in our communities.

Our Associates Give Back

Our spirit of giving back goes way beyond a corporate giving commitment — our associates also personally give back through volunteerism and donations, and through partnerships with our charitable organizations, to make a meaningful impact in their communities. Each year associates volunteer their time for various charitable events, such as the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure and the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® walk. Our associates also participated in United Way's Choose to Give Campaign in 2021, raising more than $190,000 in associate contributions, which the company matched, for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Operation Homefront, and United Way of South Hampton Roads. In April of this year, associates participated in the Day of Action Earth Day Volunteer event, participating in 4-hour sustainability and community beautifications projects with the United Way of South Hampton Roads or the City of Chesapeake.

Our Distribution Center associates also organize charitable giving and volunteer opportunities in their local areas. For example, in 2021, our distribution center in Savannah, Georgia held its second annual Toys for Tots toy drive, and our distribution center in Stockton, California held its annual Make-a-Wish® fundraiser to provide wishes for children suffering from cancer.
